Rotary Scre Air Compressors

All Makes And Models

Rotary screw Air compressors are the first choice for many industrial and commercial air compressor needs.

A rotary screw compressor is very similar to an electric pump in that it is able to force fluids using air pressure. The rotary screw air compressor is mainly used for the pressurizing and transporting of liquids and gasses through pipes and into more confined spaces before discharging it under high amounts of pressure. This type of compressor is perfect for continuous operations and can be found in both portable and stable models.

A rotary screw compressor falls into the “gas” compressor family. The compression mechanism can be either single screw or consist of 2 alternately rotating helical screws in a casement. The compression mechanism spins, or rotates, and opens an air cavity which can be filled by gas. Both mechanisms draw gas into the cavity, capture the gas, and compress the gas as the cavity is reduced in volume. Once the gas has reduced in volume it is then forced through a port located on the casement or housing of the compressor.

Rotary screw air compressors have many different uses. At a construction site you will often find large rotary units. These are powered by diesel and mounted on trailers for workers using tools requiring compressed air. They are also used in many different types of machinery such as air conditioners.

There are two basic types of rotary screw air compressors, oil compressor and the oil free compressor.

An oil compressor- injects oil into the cavities that have been created by compression. The oil seals the area and cools the gas for the charge. The compressor separates the oil and recycles it for future use. Unfortunately, some of the oil does get released with the compressed gas. To overcome this, and to keep the oil from mixing with the released compressed gas, oil compressors now have filters. These filters keep the compressed air being released from being tainted with oil.

Oil free compressors - are similar to oil compressors except they achieve compression without the use of any fluids. Rotary screw compressors that are oil free compress air entirely through the motion of the rotary screws. They do not require an oil seal. Because they do not use oil they are not as powerful and the discharged compressed air will have less pressure. Manufacturers have found that they can increase the pressure of the discharged air by cycling the air through several sets of screws and cavities. The advantage of an oil free compressor is seen in areas of industry where any oil discharge with the compressed air would lead to contamination or problems.

Chicago Pneumatic serves the auto industry with high quality compressors. Their most popular model is the stationary QRS75HP1, This model is easy to install and easy to maintain. It is quiet and will not require you to have a second room for operation. This unit retails at under $1500 and comes standard with a TEFC motor. Also popular with the auto industry is the Ingersoll Rand UP615CTAS125. This compressor is rated to perform for long periods of time at lower a temperature which is one reason it is so popular. The Ingersoll Rand has a PSI of 125 and is stationary.

The rotary screw compressor you purchase depends solely on your needs. You have a wide range of options available and should consider what you will be using the compressor for before making a major purchase.
