Piston Air Compressors

Piston Air Compressors, as is quite obvious from its name, uses piston in its mechanism. Piston motion in the air compressors is determined by the forces from the combustion of gas chambers. The principle of Piston Air Compressors is that the air compressor cylinders are coupled to the moving pistons, often in a multi-stage configuration. Some of these engines utilize the air remaining in the compressor cylinders to return the piston, thereby eliminating the need for a rebound device. This is the major advantage of a piston air compressor over other normal high pressure compressors that use a rebounding device for their operation.

This type of compressor is known for its high efficiency, compactness and is preferable because it gives a very low noise and vibration. These machines find their uses normally in pneumatic tools which require the compressed air for its functioning and for air dryer which is used in the industries on a daily basis. The feature which makes it different is the use of piston which gives it various advantages over non-piston air compressors.

Oil-less piston compressors are often used to recover the natural gases and to feed the recovered natural gas back to the process. Numerous practical examples show that the benefits of thse compressors are not just environmental, but also ease of use. Piston compressors are one of the most energy efficient means of compressing air specially for applications where oil-free compressor is required. Piston compressors are ideal for low pressure applications such as materials handling as well as high pressure applications such as PET bottle blowing and breathing air cylinder charging systems.

In this air compressor, the pre-compression occurs in a chamber at the rear side of the piston. Here only a small degree of compression is attained. These air compressors provide a second valve connecting the cylinder space with the external air.

Some of the popular models are as follows.

KY Piston Air Compressor: This model is one of the best models using the piston for the purpose of air compression. It works at a frequency of 50 Hz with 2800 rpm speed. This model is light weight and compact and, hence, is easy for storage.

1.5 Hp Piston Compressor: This model has an integrated design and is adopted for enhancing the efficiency of the motor. New valve design increases the compression efficiency. It is quiet and offers fully automatic control system which facilitates operational convenience, safety and reliability.

The invention of this type of compressors is based on the objective of enhancing the delivery of the air compressor and the final pressure of the compressed air, particularly in conjunction with an improved volumetric efficiency.
